Breeo Foods in association with ESS Ltd. win award at the 19th annual Meeta Maintenance Awards

ESS Ltd. provide their CMI (Continuous Maintenance Improvement) Service to BREEO Foods, Tallaght, Dublin (part of the Dairygold Group) who deal with the processing of cooked meat products. In 2006 BREEO Foods in alliance with ESS Ltd., entered the 19th annual MEETA National Maintenance Project Awards under the Technology category.

The Meeta awards promote and encourage world-class standards of maintenance engineering and management. There are two categories - Management and Technology and ESS Ltd./BREEO won the top prize in the Technology category.


ESS Ltd. personnel Philip Lawlor (Maintenance Manager at BREEO) and Martin Whelan, Asset Care Manager, ESS Ltd. put together the initial entry and subsequent presentation, liaising closely with BREEO. The BREEO project combined the technology of the ESS Ltd. CMI service along with accurate data gathering and analysis to feed into a Continuous Improvement program allowing both Design out and Preventive maintenance optimization to prevail.

One of the intangible benefits accrued included a team based approach to Continuous Improvement involving both maintenance and production.

[h3Some of the “hard” savings included:

• Increased reliability and output leading to a reduction in the overtime worked at the plant by 24%
• Plant downtime due to maintenance decreased by more than 50%
• A fivefold decrease in gas consumption at the site

Philip Lawlor received a beautiful art glass trophy along with holiday vouchers to the value of €1,000 for BREEO from award sponsors PMI.

The awards ceremony took place on Thursday 23rd Nov, in Engineers Ireland, Clyde Road. Dublin and the ceremony was addressed by the Managing Director of HP – Lionel Alexander who stressed the importance of world class asset management to his company.
