The National Outsourcing Conference "The Business of Outsourcing"
This year the National Outsourcing Conference was held on Feb 4th in the IMI, Dublin. Our MD Ray O' Neill, attended the National Outourcing Conference where the agenda was "Innovation in the Business of Outsourcing". One common theme was that "your mess for less" wasn't the right reason for outsourcing!! There was strong advice to consider the people issues early on, to allow the service provider to be innovative and that it was necessary for them to make some money too. Governance doesn't mean blaming the service provider for everything.
" ...the possibilities of outsourcing services should be actively pursued in each area of the public service with a view to building on the savings. The main benefits to the exchequer will derive from significant efficiencies and savings on the delivery of schemes" So said Dr Colm Mc Carthy in his An Bord Snip Nua report and this was highlighted again by Eoin O' Driscoll, Chairman of Forfas who was making the point that there existed possibilities for service companies to grow their business overseas.
And one more from the conference: Ray Ryder (Ex Green Isle Foods & Glanbia and now Group Procurement Director with Bank Of Ireland) laid out his Top 5 Asks from Service Providers:- Ask the buyer early in the process for their definition of success
- Be sure you can deliver on your promises - don't over committ
- Be flexible
- Allocate the right resources to each stage of the process
- Continuous innovation and pro- activity.
