ESS helps EirGrid to achieve accreditation to ISO 55001 – the International standard on Asset Management
The East West Interconnector (EWIC) is a high-voltage direct current submarine and underground power cable which links the electricity transmission grids of Ireland and Great Britain. It has a power rating of 500 MW and is one of the largest High Voltage Direct Current schemes in the world to use Voltage Source Converter technology. The EWIC is a fully regulated interconnector which was developed and is owned by EirGrid Interconnector Limited (EIL) which is part of the EirGrid Group.
ESS carried out a Gap Analysis for them against ISO 55001 – the international standard on Asset Management. We then put in place an improvement plan and worked with EWIC to achieve those improvements and make them both audit ready and have a practical pragmatic Asset Management system.
The goal of certification was achieved first time round and here’s what Eamon Carroll, Asset Manager, EWIC had to say about us:
“We completed the Stage 2 audit last week and following this SGS have recommended that EirGrid Interconnector Limited (EIL) get ISO 55001 certified. Thanks for all your help over the last 18 months, it’s been a long journey and we have set up a great Asset management system for the East-West Interconnector. Thanks again for all your help. Regards, Eamon”
