All technical and human aspects are fully considered in all stages of the life of equipment such as new design, commissioning, operation, maintenance, life extension and finally de-commissioning. It has been designed to illustrate fundamental reliability concepts and vital tools without getting drawn into complex mathematics.
Its purpose is to bridge the gap between what can be the rather theoretical subject of “reliability” and day-to-day activities such as design, operation and maintenance by emphasizing the common goals and team work required between the different groups, departments and organisations involved. Participants are encouraged to bring their failure statistics (motors, pumps, machinery components etc.) for analysis.

Assessment and Certification
A Certificate of Completion is awarded on submission of a home assignment post training. This assignment will entail self-directed learning, including research, reading, study, reflection and preparation of assessment work. Participants will be asked to submit their assessment work for grading within one month of the course completion. The trainer will be available for questions on this assignment.
Chris James delivers reliability and maintenance training, consulting and analysis in a wide range of industries for the last 10 years. A Mechanical Engineer who started his career as a Design Engineer in the Aircraft Industry. He has over 26 years’ experience implementing Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) – a process used to improve the safety, reliability and cost effectiveness of physical assets through selection of the most effective maintenance techniques and one-off changes. Employed directly for 11 years by the late John Moubray, founder of Aladon Ltd and author of the best-selling book on RCM2.
During this period helped develop Aladon’s training materials (including content in the RCM book), ran Aladon’s public RCM2 courses in the UK, managed Aladon’s worldwide network of licensees, acted as an expert for the central franchising organisation and applied RCM in a wide range of industries. Chris also developed and ran training courses to improve awareness of the range of condition-based techniques available, along with how to compare and evaluate these techniques based on technical feasibility and business impact.

Reliability Improvement Diploma
Following on from the Reliability Improvement Certificate, we offer a unique 12 month Reliability Diploma, this mentored course offers advice, guidance and suggestions about the reliability improvement plans which candidates produce themselves post the Certificate Training and Assignment.
We will offer two streams to achieve the Diploma, depending on your circumstance.
- On-line mentoring, continuous contact over a 12 month period.
- On-site mentoring and on-line contact with the addition of four visits at key points during the set up and implementation of the reliability improvement plan.
Assessment and Certification
To be awarded a Reliability Improvement Diploma, applicants must demonstrate that they have achieved improvements in reliability by designing and implementing a successful plan.
